'Rocketman' Among Big Winners At 2020 Golden Globes

As the calendars roll over into 2020, awards season has kicked off with the 2020 Golden Globes. 

There was no question that 2019 was the year of the musical biopic with Elton John's Rocketman picking up two big awards. Taron Egerton won Best Actor In A Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy for his portrayal of John and Best Original Song was presented to I'm Gonna Love Me Again by John and Bernie Taupin. 

"And finally to Elton John: thank you for the music, thank you for living a life less ordinary and thank you for being my friend," Egerton said before dedicating the award to his mum.

The film lost out to Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood, The Music's top film of 2019, for Best Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy.

Elsewhere, while a large contingent of Aussie actors were nominated, only Russell Crowe picked up an award for his role in The Loudest Voice. Jennifer Anniston accepted the award on his behalf and read out a speech in which Crowe drew more attention to the Australian bushfire crisis.

“Make no mistake, the tragedy unfolding in Australia is climate change-based,” Crowe said.

“We need to act based on science, move our global workforce to renewable energy and respect our planet for the unique and amazing place it is. That way, we all have a future. Thank you.”
